Ok, If you’ve followed Gunfighter Nation ’round these parts you’ve probably noticed a word that we like to use in reference to our friends, our followers, and even ourselves. That word is “hooplehead” and its left more than a few of you scratching your own heads. I know of one enterprising young cowpoke who searched the word on the interwebs only to learn of the definition and cry fowl: “Hey, that’s not me! That’s an insult!” Well, here’s the story kimosabe: “hooplehead” seems to be a neologism invented by the writers of the HBO show “Deadwood” (RIP) to refer to an everyday fellow, one of the unwashed, huddled masses; not someone you’ll see escorted into VIP lounges or keeping fashionable company. The truth is that Gunfighter Nation, coming so late into this music thang, and with so little cred, experience, connections, or chance of makin’ it, consider ourselves, well, you guessed it: hoopleheads. Check out this delish clip from Deadwood to get the real flavor of the jerky.
Hoopleheads?

Thank you for your clarification of the term, “Hooplehead”. I have, indeed, scratched my head over it, a few times, always concluding that you can call me whatever you wish, as long as you keep turning out great music that moves my ass. I’ve even grown accustomed to this term of endearment. It has a nice sound. And, without searching for an external meaning, concluded that it defines, “people who like great, fucking, dancy tunes”.
